SOUTH DURRAS

Get distracted in South Durras. Enjoy exploring or playing on and around the beaches and lake.

Durras Lake - One of the places here you can picnic or play

South Durras is a 10 minute comfy tree-lined drive off the highway. Turn off at Durras Drive and wind through the Murramarang National Park to reach the seaside village that sits between two great stretches of sand and ocean - Durras and South Durras Beach resting on Beagle Bay, the waterways that make up Durras Lake, and the stunning forests that are the National Park. When you get to the outskirts of town, there's 2 options. You can drive straight ahead to South Durras Beach or turn left to get to Durras Beach and the Lake. If you choose the latter and you feel like a walk - park the car at the turnoff and follow the paths that wind around the edge of the national park. You will reach civilisation in about 10 -15 minutes. Do you have a dog? Go this way. He/she can have a run on the beach. Whatever you decide, take note, both beaches are unpatrolled, so swimming is probably not a great idea, however you can paddle in the shallows, hit the waves on a board, surfski, kayak, or cruise about in whatever craft takes your fancy. There's a boatramp at the lake. There's not much else in the way of man-made attractions but there is an abundance of untouched environment and wildlife - keep an eye out for kangaroos and listen out for the sounds of the birdlife. There is a general store and cafe in Corilla Street where you can pick up some basic supplies or grab a bite to eat. If you do need fuel best to fill up before you come in. Looking to revive away from the crowds and commercialism, and in a natural, rather rustic setting? South Durras is for you. For more info, see the links below. If you have the time also drop down to the southern end where the National Park meets up with Beagle Bay.
