Get distracted in Grafton. A vibrant rural riverside town with lotsa old world charm.
The outskirts of town rest on the highway. It only takes a few minutes to get to where all the action is. If coming in from the south - the main part of town is just across the bridge. This sits above the beautiful Clarence River - that seems to go forever in Northern NSW. There's plenty of options to refresh and rejuvenate here so it's easier to just pop them in a list. There's also some links below with some more info. The only thing you won't find here is the beach! So here's just a handful of tips:
- Stroll, drive or take the bike for a spin around the tree-lined streets. It's particularly nice around Briemba Street just to the east as you come over the bridge (if coming in from the south)
- Chill in one of the many parks scattered around town - Memorial Park in Prince Street is one of my picks - It's close to town and right on the river
- Grab a bite to eat in one of the many cafe's or restaurants in the main street or just out of town
- Enjoy the local vibe at one of the many pubs - The Crown on Prince Street has great food and river views
- Get down on the water in your chosen craft - Yes there's a few boat-ramps dotted around town
- Cruise the galleries, do a spot of shopping, and if you are looking for a specific service - you will find most here
If you are considering factoring Grafton into your trip, October and November is a very colourful time here - The Jacarandas are in full bloom - forming a natural purple canopy and carpet around town. A very colourful distraction from the highway drive.
