Get distracted in Minnie Water. Nestled in the Yuraygir National Park and on the edge of the sea
It's about a 30 minute drive to this hidden little gem via Wooli Road. The biggest attraction here is a natural one. Because it's surrounded by national park and unspoilt beaches, there's plenty of room to spread out without man-made interruptions except of course the many picnic tables dotted along the foreshores. There's a certain kind of calmness due to it's isolation and simplicity. A place where you can sit or stroll and hear the rolling waves without having to strain to hear them over the sound of traffic or bustling crowds.
It's a great spot to stretch the legs either on the sand, around the streets or along the coastal walking tracks. There's signs and maps on the fringe of the beaches that point out where you can let the pooch have a run, launch your boat or take the wheels on the beach. If you are up for a swim it's best to avoid the northern end - it can get a bit wild. The southern end is sometimes patrolled. See the links below for more info on all these things. If you decide to stay and have your own van or tent there's a couple of options - one is a free camp area right on the beach.
Don't expect to shop till you drop, there's only a general store, so it's best to fill up with fuel too before you head in. If it's serenity, sand, surf and nature you are looking for - Minnie Water is for you. Enjoy if you do drop in !!
