Get distracted in Maclean. A vibrant town with a Scottish flavour.
A 5 - 10 minute comfortable riverside drive along Yamba Road if coming in from the north and a little less if coming in from the south via Cameron Street. You can't miss either turn off. The northern end is as soon as you come off the Harwood bridge where you have a choice - head east to Yamba or west to Maclean. The southern end begins with a great little rest stop "Ferry Park". If you don't want to go into town this is a good option to have a break.
A little unexpected but one of the first things you notice, apart from the beautiful Clarence river scenery, is the Scottish inspired art and tartan scattered around. It's a celebration of the pioneers who established life in Maclean and made a big contribution to what it is today. Although it's small, Maclean boasts a vibrant village atmosphere, especially in the main street. There's several options for eats and drinks (some great coffee and yummy treats). You can pick up groceries and meat, grab some hard wares, or shout yourself reminders of your visit. There's basic services like the Post Office, Doctors, Dentists and Mechanics scattered around town. Need to fill up the tank? You can do this too.
A stroll around the surrounding streets is a great way to stretch the legs or if you prefer to hang out by the river there's lots of grassy spots to perch, play, picnic, enjoy the views or throw in a line. It's also easy to get down on the water if you are keen to go for a paddle or take the boat for a spin. Want to walk you pooch or know more about Maclean? Check out the links below !
