Get distracted in Harwood. A great place for a real quick break. It's just off the highway.
This quiet laid back community sits on the Clarence River just north of the Harwood bridge. Only a minute off the highway via Watt's Lane and a comfy drive on a sealed road surrounded by sugarcane fields and paddocks.
It's the perfect place for a quick break if you don't have much time to spare or are keen to avoid the coastal crowds and prefer to chill in riverside, rural surrounds.
Don't expect to shop till your drop or fill up with fuel though. There's a few basic services here but if you need more - best to head down the road to Maclean (south) or one of the bigger towns in the north.
If you are just looking to:
- Stretch the legs
- Walk your dog
- Use public amenities
- Picnic by a river
- Have a pub feed
Do drop in - No bright lights - but a rural riverside delight.
You will know you are close when you see sugar mill chimneys peeking out above the sugar cane just off to the left if heading south or roofs peeking out between the trees just over the bridge when heading north. There is a new bridge being built (2017/18), so this might change in the near future. We will update here when it is complete.
