Get distracted in Mogareeka. A nice surprise just north of Tathra.
About 25 minutes from the Princes Highway via Tathra in the south or 40+ minutes from Bega via Tarraganda Lane and across Doctor George Mountain (a slightly rougher ride). Alternatively if you have the time (about 45 minutes) and coming from the north, divert off the highway at Cobargo and head down through Bermagui on the Tathra-Bermagui Road. It will add 20+ minutes onto your driving time but It's a comfy drive through national park forests with other cool spots to see along the way. This road runs parallel to the Princes Highway that winds around the western side of the mountains. When you get there don't expect to do much other than enjoy the delights that nature offers, either on foot, by kayak, canoe or watercraft, just sitting on the river bank under a shady tree or spreading out your picnic at one of the tables and chairs dotted along the river banks. It's a great place to walk across the sandy river banks or let the kiddies safely paddle in the shallows - just make sure you are always with them - it is not patrolled. On the south side of the bridge you can take a walk on the sand out to where the river meets the sea. Dog walking areas are restricted due to the preservation of wildlife. Check the local signage first. If you are looking for some peaceful surrounds where you can see and hear the birdlife and enjoy untainted surrounds - do drop in you won't be disappointed. There are no shops or services so BYO. Tathra is only 10 minutes down the road and has the basics.
