Get distracted in Shaws Bay, Ballina. Lots of spots to picnic, paddle, play or just relax.
It's about a 15 minute drive from the highway via River Street in the south and Tamarind Drive in the north. A perfect spot to stretch your legs, take the kayak for a spin, ride your bike, practice your surfing, cool down in the shallows, paddle in the lagoon, throw in a line, pull out the picnic or just chill by the river on the grassy foreshores.
As you cross the bridge over North Creek, take a turn right and you will have arrived. Coming from the coast road turn left just before the bridge. If you feel like exploring a little further afield, you can walk to where the river meets the sea and enjoy what the river has to offer along the way - there's usually an abundance of wildlife.
If you need a feed or feel like a cool ale, there's a couple of spots on the edge of the bay. Amenities are also close-by. You can walk your pooch on a lead, but if you want to let him/her have a run, head back to The Spit, on the way into town on the other side of the bridge or check out the link below.
Shaws Bay - A perfect place to sit and ponder and take in the sounds of the surrounds.
