BLACK HEAD

Get distracted at Blackhead Beach. A hidden treasure that boasts a beautiful beach, waterside rainforest and other natural treats.

A sign of what's to come

It's about a 15 minute drive through some lovely countryside - From the north via The Lakes Way & from the south via Failford Road. Although not busy all year round, I imagine it might get busy during school holidays. All the beaches in this area are reasonably undisturbed as they are nestled between NATIONAL PARKS and the VILLAGES are small enough to have not had a big impact on the natural environment.

Blackhead Beach is one of my faves. It's a top spot for: - SURF SWIMMING and BOOGIE-BOARDING. Perfect for all ages and yes is patrolled in summer - A WALK between the HEADLANDS on the sand or up the hills to Black Head (south) and Red Head (north) to get great views - COOLING OFF in the SURFSIDE ROCK-POOL - A STROLL through the RAINFOREST adjacent to the beach or a KAYAK on the lagoon that weaves through this. All spots are easy to get to from Main Street. DOGs are allowed off leash at certain times of the day within designated areas on the sand, at other times they must be on the lead. They can also join you for some parts of the nature walks. Check out the useful links below.

There is a Supermarket, Chemist, Bottlemart, Post Office and few other SHOPS and SERVICES on High Street. Best to fill up with FUEL before you come in. If looking to EAT there's CAFE's and CLUBS sprinkled around town and plenty of options for PICNICKING on the waters edge. While here and if you have time - also check out Red Head to the north and/or Halliday Point and the Darawank Nature Reserve in the south.
