Get distracted in Old Bar. No bright lights but certainly a colourful beachside delight !
Within 10 minutes you can be taking a break in this beautiful place. Just turn off at the Highway Food Stop that takes you into Taree.
Although the town is only small, there's enough here to meet your basic needs like petrol station, hairdresser, chemist, bakery, Australia Post and a supermarket. There's also a nice selection of places to eat and drink ranging from clubs, cafe's and takeaways. I like the latter ços there's some cool places to perch down near the beach. It's an easy town to get around by car on foot or bicycle.
About the beach - The main beach is patrolled at times so if you plan to take a dip, this is the best place to go. It's also a poplular spot for surfing and kitesurfing. The park that forms the gateway to this beach is a superb spot to picnic, light up a barbie, let the kiddies play or let the pooch stretch it's legs. There's also a couple of other options here if you need a feed. Alternatively, a short drive along Mudbishops Point Road, (a well maintained dirt track) brings you out where the Manning River South Channel meets the sea. If you feel like a big stretch of the legs, you can reach here on foot from the main beach. There's spots along this track where you can get your wheels down on the sand - but there are some rules and you will need a permit.
If you happen to be around Old Bar in October, you will see lots of Kombi's around the streets. They are a key part of the Old Bar Beach Festival. Wanna see more or looking for something specific? Check out the links below.
